A Simple Guide to Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment



A lifting operation is an operation that is related to lifting of a weight or a load. It can be done either manually by persons or can be done by some machine or lifting equipments which can be hoisting equipment, a crane or some other equipment. There are many lifting equipments that can be used. Some of them are:
·         Construction hoist: It is used as a lifting equipment and is available at normal price range in the market.
·         Construction Scaffolding: It costs a little more but is important for lifting heavy objects.
·         A fork lift truck: It is powered with forks and hydraulic lift system which can be used to lift heavy objects very easily.
·         Lifting equipment for a person: Sometimes a person also needs to be lifted. For this purpose, there are other equipments available like a construction elevator or a passenger hoist or many other. 
 
There are many others hoisting equipment or lifting equipment that can be used to lift objects but which is suitable for you is decided by the type of loads that you need to lift or the budget in which you want to buy the equipment and also some other factors that needs to be kept in mind. There are some regulations which is required to be followed for any type of lifting equipment either it is construction hoist or construction scaffolding or any other. These regulations is related to the safety or health of the workers. Here are the some of the regulations or a simple guide to lifting equipments and lifting operations:
·         The lifting equipment must be strong enough to hold the load. It should be taken care that it is suitable and perfect for the use, that is it should be checked that it is not damaged or there is no any other issue in using it. Also, the type of load that it needs to lift should be suitable for the equipment.
·         One of the important guide for using the equipment is that, it should be positioned perfectly or installed at the right position to avoid any risk. Suppose it is positioned improperly then it can cause some harm to any worker in case the load falls and strikes a worker. So, to protect any person or from any damage the positioning of the equipment should be taken care of.
·         Lifting operations should be planned properly, supervised under a competent person who is experienced enough to guide the workers in a proper way, and carried out by a trained and experienced worker who is aware about many of the risks involved. There should be a good coordination between the supervisor and the worker who is going to use the equipment.
·         Lifting operations are not always just done to lift heavy objects, these can also be used for lifting a person and when it is used to lift a person then there are several risks that need to be avoided and the operation should be more cautious. Every necessary precaution should must be taken to avoid all those linked risks.
Pre-checking of the equipment before use: If you are going to use the lifting equipment or accessories for the first time, you need to check it properly. There should be a thorough examination of the equipment by a competent person. Also, it is not just that first time use should be checked only, first time it must be checked. In addition to this, you should make sure that, at least every 6 month your equipment should be thoroughly examined to avoid any involving risks.
