The major difference which distinguishes the capillary column or packed column depends upon its mode. When we talk about the packed column, in this the stationary phase is totally packed inside the cavity of the column. On the other hand, the capillary column is when the stationary phase is coated with the inner surface. Packed columns are usually used in the process of liquid-liquid extractions.
